Hello readers! Another Lego model has joined the collection. Just like all the previous models, this is a micro-scale rendition of a fictional location from my Highmoor series – although my hope is that anyone can enjoy the intricacies of these tiny Lego pieces, even without knowing the source material. This is the first time that I have attempted a landscape rather than a building. And yes, it’s not exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the book, but that’s my own fault for limiting myself to a 32×32 grid!

For the Lego fans…
I’m sorry to say that there is nothing particularly creative here, so far as pieces go. The waterfall is probably my favourite part, but it’s nothing more than tiles and panels. The mountains are mostly hollow, with evenly-spaced pillars of blocks on the inside, but this method for construction is very obvious from the side view. The sides are, unfortunately, a bit ugly… And looking back, I might have used some rounded pieces or wedges to add a bit more variation to the mountain slopes. But it’s too late now! Hopefully my next mountain attempt will be better.
For the book fans…
In case you don’t recognise it in all its angular, cubic glory, this is Trekja’s Rest – a location from the first book in the Highmoor series (which, in a moment of creative genius, I also called Highmoor). If you haven’t read the book, don’t worry about spoilers. I don’t think this model gives away any plot details… I just liked the idea of building a secluded valley, sheltering a tiny village and hidden temple.
Maybe the characters go to this village at some point? Maybe they visit the temple, or the conspicuous cave at the top of the mountain? Who can say! (Actually, you can say – because Highmoor is available on Amazon, or for free with Kindle Unlimited!)
The art page is growing…
There is now a dedicated webpage for all art associated with the Highmoor series! This includes doodles of characters (if you ever wondered how I imagine them in cartoon form) and all previous Lego constructions. There is also a separate page for maps.
In summary…
The art collection is still evolving, and there are plenty more projects in the pipeline. As for the blog, there are some longer posts on the way (including reviews, science fiction ponderings and some historical science perspectives), but these may well be interspersed with shorter, “arty” posts such as this one. And maybe some book-writing progress updates as well – who knows? Happy reading, and have a lovely week!
